Many recruiters flock to different colleges and universities for campus recruitment of the final year students in professional courses.  It happens several months before the students are supposed to sit for the final exams.  For companies, it is advantageous, because they get energetic, fresh and committed individuals with a lot of dreams.  They bring on board the much needed qualities of ambition, hard work and commitment, with “no strings attached”. It also enables the recruiters to find talented, interested and loyal candidates at one place.  The cost advantages are therefore obvious.  This way, you do not need to rush here and there contacting recruitment agencies and job portals to find such a good bunch of people.  However, there are certain disadvantages of campus recruitment, as well.  For example, the fresh out of college candidates do not have any kind of experience, so a huge cost has to be incurred to train them.  Furthermore, some of these candidates can hop to better paying jobs after getting trained, and therefore it causes attrition issues for the hiring company. Advantages of Campus Recruitment There are several advantages of campus recruitment, both for fresh out of college candidates and employers.  Some of the advantages of campus recruitment are as follows: It provides a good platform for the companies to pick the best candidates for different job profiles.  Besides getting a wider choice, the employers also save a lot of time in recruitment.  Most of the young job seekers are talented and ready to accept challenges.  So, the most challenging assignments can be given to this fresh blood.  Students also get the option to choose and the screen their employers this way, according to their skills and interests.  It also saves them a lot of time and frustration involved with job hunting.  The candidates selected trough campus recruitment, consider themselves luckier than the candidates, who don’t get this opportunity.  When they get offer letter from a company, while they are still in the campus, it takes a lot of worries off their shoulders and enables them to continue their preparation for the final semester. Campus recruitment is an extremely cost efficient activity as it saves a lot of time for the employers.  The recruitment team needs to visit a few colleges and spend just one or two days in a college to end up short-listing hundreds of candidates.  If they have a hiring calendar, it can be an extremely cost-efficient activity for future hiring.  The other way round is to go to different places and incur huge expense in traveling, advertisements, screening, conducting the final round and finally getting a suitable candidate.  Therefore, campus recruitment is time saving as well. The organizations conducting campus recruitment in a particular institute/college establish strong relationships with the concerned institute and its students.  The students keep coming to these organizations for summer training and internships, etc.  So, it builds a strong pipeline for next year’s recruitments.  It is therefore the preferred activity of the employers. The selection ratio is much higher in campus recruitment as compared to other forms of recruitment activities. The other big advantage of campus recruitment is the loyalty factor.  The young graduates have high regards for their first company as they are emotionally attached to it.  Being their first employer, you are very close to their hearts and appear on top of their resume as well. Disadvantages of Campus Recruitment The biggest disadvantage comes in the form of training expenditure required for these untrained individuals.  If you go to far-off areas, the traveling and boarding expenses also pile up.  Campus recruitment is also not a solution for short term and urgent staffing requirements.
