Uttar Pradesh is the fourth largest state of India. The major economic drivers of the states are the cities of the UP ( Uttar Pradesh). These cities are providing employment opportunities to UP. In this article we have taken five cities to show the employment generation of UP.Those cities are Kanpur, Firozabad, Noida, Ghaziabad and Varanasi. Let view it one by one. Kanpur Kanpur is the second largest Industrial City of the Hindu belt in north India. The city is very much famous for it’s leather tanneries. This makes the city as the major centre for leather and textile Industry. In chain of it, several Industries grownup which result in cascading effect along with policies of government to accelerate economic growth and development. Industries which are major contributor to the economy in Kanpur are fertilizers, plastics, two wheelers, chemicals, IT, detergent, food packaging and jewelry making. There is no shortage of workforce, whether talk about skilled or unskilled. Banking facilities is also favourable for the city. There are many big corporate houses and MNCs establishing their branches in Kanpur. Some of the business giant are Kashi Jewellers, Laxman traders, Superhouse Group, Simran traders, Aone user, Mirza International, The Universal Book Stall, flex industries, Kesarwani, Bajrangbali, deals in handicraft materials, Pan Parag, super glue etc. Kanpur is the major Industrial hub in India. It is important revenue contributor to economy. The Central government of India had declared the Kanpur as the “Town of Export Excellence”. This means, this is due to the large amount of subsidies given by government to stimulate the export. Firozabad Firozabad is located in western part of Uttar Pradesh. The City is well known for the small scale Industry, specially for glasses and bangle making small units. The city is well connected with New Delhi , Howrah, Mumbai, Kanpur, Lucknow, Jaipur, Jammu Tawi, Amritsar, Jamshedpur, Patna, Aligarh, Agra, Puri, Ajmer, Ambala, Bareilly, Etawah and Tundla through railway roadway networks. Since ancient time, the city is engaged in manufacturing glassware. Now, the city is changing his scenario into the glass manufacturing. There are many small scale units engaged in Glass Manufacturing. The major products of these units are glass hardware, glass artware, glass domestic ware, glass automobile ware, chandelier, glass street and domestic light ware etc. In the recent year, firozabad has been on the path of development. The expansionary path of the glass Industry strengthening its existence and increasing the importance of peoples, government, economy and Industry. The importance of glass industry is understood by the people of Firozabad and the skills and art of making is now getting in to mingle with the world’s style to increase the export. Today, this city has 75% of the population engaged in this Industry. Noida New Okhla Industrial Development Authority, shortly known as Noida is under the New Okhla Industrial Development Authority Management. Noida is a major hub of Industries and MNCs outsourcing IT services. There are many Indian corporates and foreign firms, that have their head offices in Noida. Noida has major advantage of connectivity with national capital. As the political hub of the country, Delhi becomes the major attraction for New Channels. Film City is the place in Noida, which is the hub for news channels. such as India TV, News X, TV Today Group NDTV, Zee News, CNN-IBN, CNBC have their offices in Noida. Energy and power companies have their offices in Noida. Companies of power and energy present in India are BHEL (Bharat Heavy Electrical Limited), Oil India Limited, Reliance Infrastructure, NTPC Ltd, TATA Power, GAS Authority of India Ltd, Indian Oil Corporation, BGR Energy System Ltd and Samsung Engineering. IT Industry is also flourishing in Noida due to MNCs firms in outsourcing IT services. Those MNCs are Sapient, Fiserv, Headstrong, EXL Service, First Flight Courier LTD, Students-Leads, IBM, Miracle, AON Hewitt, Fujitsu, CSC, TCS, WIPRO, Padma Infocom, HCL, Tech Mahindra, Adobe Systems, Ericsson, Dell, Sparta Consulting, Patni Computers, Corbus, Accenture, Samsung etc. These IT companies have opened the huge opportunities in for IT professionals by providing huge employment in this sector. Government is putting its efforts in providing healthy environment in for businesses. This is proved by establishment of Special Economic Zones and IT parks in Noida. Despite this, Industrial sector is also a major provider of job to the job seeker of northern India. Many automobile companies have their manufacturing units in Noida like Escorts, Honda-SIEL, Moriroku Technology India Pvt Ltd, New Holland Tractors (JV of FIAT with Ford). Other companies have their manufacturing units such as Alstom, ISGEC, LG, Samsung, Barclays, Ericsson and music company T-Series. Varanasi Varanasi, commonly known as Banaras and Kashi is the oldest city originated at bank of Ganga river in UP ( Uttar Pradesh). Varanasi has one third of its population employed and rest of the population is working its own or engaged in primary sector. Two fifth of the employed population work in manufacturing sector, one third in commerce and one fifth is engaged in services. In manufacturing sector, half of the people are engaged in spinning and weaving. Manufacturing sector is not much developed. There is absence of groups of large scale manufacturing units which could help boosting the economic activities of the city. Varanasi has large number of small scale manufacturing units and household production which generate income for the economy of Varanasi. There is presence of heavy Industries in Varanasi since decades. Railway’s locomotive and spare part work employs large part of population. BHEL (Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited) is another heavy Industry which manufactures heavy equipments and also repair them. Varanasi is well connected with rest of the country through railway network, roadway network, and airway network. City have access of three National Highway : NH-2, NH-29, NH-56 and four state highways which help in boosting economic activities.
